Top 10 (2010)

The time has come... We reveal to you Headbang Today's top 10 metal releases of 2010!

2010 Has by far been one of the best years we’ve seen when it came to each big name in the industry releasing yet another much anticipated title.

After capitalizing on advance algorithms, hours of reviews, endless debates and listening to what the fans had to say, we now finally have our top ten list compiled. It was no walk in the park, but it was definitely one hell of a ride! Enjoy.

COMING IN AT NUMBER 10

Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy

Nevermore scored a windmilling 7/10 on Headbang Today’s unique rating system (It’s as tough as nails by the way). With the release of their much anticipated 7th album, there’s no doubt in our head-banged minds that Nevermore is here to stay and will be rocking their way up our forthcoming top 100 charts! Brilliant album, brilliant band and we want MORE – NEVERMORE!

OUR TRACK PICK: Your Poison Throne.

POPPING IN AT NUMBER 9:

KoRn III - Remember Who You Are

“…this album is worth a top ten nomination at the end of 2010.”- Headbang Today. Yes, we’ve had our eyes on this baby since it got released.  It’s vibey, ‘raw’, simple and KoRn! We have definitely enjoyed ‘Remember who you are’ more than their last couple of releases! Jonathan Davis’ vocal emotion and signature grumbling strongly maintains our everlasting love for KORN!

OUR TRACK PICK: Pop A Pill

ROLLING IN AT NUMBER 8

Soilwork - The Panic Broadcast

Soilwork is a metal band that should never be left out of the equation. We’re delighted to see that these gentlemen are still going strong with the sheer quality in their music and the compilation thereof.

OUR TRACK PICK: Late For The Kill, Early For The Slaughter.

ROCKING AT NUMBER 7

Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier

Without having any knowledge of their release, a dedicated fan enlightened us of the legendary news. A new Iron Maiden album you say? We gave it a listen and of course, were reminded that this is what legends are made of.

Scream: We’ve gotten hold of a hard-core and loyal Maiden fan, Jason McAlpin  and interrogated him for some answers! For how long have you been a Maiden fan?

Jason: I’ve been a fan of Maiden since 1984.

Scream: Ever been to a Maiden concert? If so, sum your experience up in two words (swearing allowed).

Jason: I’ve been to 17 concerts and my summary of the experience: Fucking Amazing!!!!

Scream: What’s your favourite song on ‘The Final Frontier?’

Jason: “When the Wild Wind Blows”.

OUR TRACK PICK: Mother Of Mercy

CREEPING IN AT NUMBER 6

Cradle Of Filth - Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa

Cradle pulled it off with yet another dark release. Make no mistake, they’ve finally made an album that’s more heavy metal than anything else they’ve ever done, even though they remain the undisputed Kings of Black Metal!

OUR TRACK PICK: The Persecution Song

CONQUERING AT NUMBER 5

Sevendust - Cold Day Memory

Sevendust impressed us with what we feel might just be their best release to date! Headbang Today will forever remain loyal to Sevendust!

OUR TRACK PICK: STRONG ARM BROKEN

SWORN IN AT NUMBER 4

Murderdolls - Women and Children Last

Well well what can we say? Murderdolls surprised us with Women And Children Last! Murderdolls have gone heavier with this album, bringing us more kick ass and explicit tongue in cheek lyrics!

OUR TRACK PICK: Rock n Roll Is All I Got

FLYING IN AT NUMBER 3

Soulfly - Omen

Soulfly have definately made some adjustments to their sound and music, but we feel that it was for the better! You want METAL? Soulfly will satisfy that very thirst! Epic Album!

We got in touch with a big Soulfly fan and a loyal headbanger to ask him a couple of questions about Soulfly’s epic new album, Omen! This is what Mark McMahon had to say!

Scream: Welcome to Headbang Today, Mark. Consider yourself the first headbanger to be interviewed on HeadbangToday.com. Let’s get going! Tell us a bit about your background as a fan of metal; when and how did you become a headbanger?

Mark: I’m an old hand! (Laughs). Let’s see, the first album I bought was when I was 14, that was 35 years back!

If I recall it was Sabbath’s Paranoid. And I have never looked back. My daughter, 16, is a die hard fan and plays lead and rhythm guitars in her own band called Tamla Kahn.

My son, 13, is a real machine- gunner on the drums. I guess you could say it’s in the blood!

Scream: Omen, in our opinion is an album unlike anything else we’ve heard Soulfly do before. Do you agree?

Mark: Yes, a little less ‘tribal’ perhaps. And more, dare I say ‘punky’?

Different, yet unmistakeably Soulfly.

Scream: Which part of your body would you be willing to sacrifice to see Soulfly live in South Africa?

Mark: Well, I did see them live at Vodaworld {Johannesburg} on the Prophecy tour in 2004. {Probably before your time! {Laughs}}

But I would still sacrifice everything but my head and it’s attachments, to experience them in the flesh once again!

Scream: Which track on Omen is your favourite?
Mark:
Always a difficult one when the album is so brilliant…..’Off with their heads’

FEARED AT NUMBER 2

Fear Factory - Mechanize

Fear Factory’s Mechanize clearly reminds any Death Metal band who the original gods of death metal are! Awesome album and this is one that every headbanger should consider having as a part of their collection.

OUR TRACK PICK: Christploitation

STROLLING IN AT NUMBER 1

Dimmu Borgir - Abaracadabra

It’s simply beautiful…

OUR TRACK PICK: Gateways
