Defy the Ocean have released their first EP entitled “Myopic” and all proceeds will be going to the charity Sea Shepherd. Chris Theo and Marcos Economides are the creators of Defy the Ocean. Embracing various musical styles, they have cultivated a sound which has its roots in rock and metal. Defy the Ocean’s expansive style seeks to provoke thought and then pummel that thought with a big stick. Chris picked up his first electric guitar as a youngster having failed to agree with both piano and violin. As a teenager he was inspired to begin writing lyrics and his creative impulses led him to playing both bass guitar and drums (questionably) as a means to write his own songs. Eventually he gained confidence behind the microphone and began vocalising his lyrical leanings. Eager to discover someone on his wave length, Chris joined forces with a variety of artists, eventually coming full circle to find his long-time friend Marcos. Growing up in musical surroundings Marcos quickly found his niche behind the drum set. He involved himself in as many musical projects as possible across numerous styles and by borrowing his older brother’s guitar Marcos was able to realise his own musical ideas more completely. He later went on to attend DrumTech. In mid 2010 Chris & Marcos set about creating and fine-tuning their disparate range of songs. Their individual musical styles soon converged to spark the inception of Defy The Ocean.
