Articles Interviews News — 18 January 2011

Since the release of their debut album “Afterlife” Soul Sanctuary have received an exceptional response from fans across the world and a fan base that continues to grow on a daily basis.

Close to wrapping up 2010, the band look forward to 2011 and big things to come. Supporting Major artists like Sonic Syndicate and getting their video “Afterlife” aired on music TV, are just a couple of the awesome things the band have been up to during 2010, with the video crashing into Lava TVs top 20 in it’s first week, the only way for this band is up! Set to release their second album in 2011 the band claim. “If you thought the last album was killer, this one is gonna be genocidal!” – Extract from Band’s Bio

Well we agree with every word! If Headbang Today were limited to only featuring two forthcoming albums from 2011 then it would without a doubt be  1. DevilDriver’s and then of course, the ‘reinfleshment,’ of 2. Soul Sanctuary. (no particular order). Of course we’re not daring to compare these two bands in any way as their music and goals differ vastly from one another. But the idea of how hyped up we are remains.

After reviewing and interviewing Soul Sanctuary in late 2009, we were inducted to the dark world of these talented fellows as well as their “invading army of metal.”

Headbang Today appreciates Soul Sanctuary’s generous contribution to good alternative metal and although not too few nor many may know who these dudes are, we are convinced that after this year’s release, we’ll be seeing these musical souls perform alongside big names in the industry!

Exclusive Interview with Luke Gibson (Vocals)

Q: What have you notably done different with the upcoming album compared to the first?

A: I think we’re just trying to do everything better this time round. The aim is to truly refine our craft, to make the songs more interesting and challenging musically, while being simpler and more accessible at the same time. Two ideas that are almost contradictory but we’ve certainly not strangers to that sort of thing. We’ve all grown as musicians and our abilities as writers and performers has increased tenfold. A large part of the last album came from adaptation’s of older songs, some before we had two vocalists and some before Soul Sanctuary was even formed. This time the album is being written for us as a whole unit, for who we are as people, as a band and as friends. This is the album that will define who and what Soul Sanctuary really is!

Q: With the release of a well-received music video from the first album, will there be more for the second?

A: Of course! We’re still playing with the idea of a second or even a third from the Afterlife album. although finding the right people and shooting locations to work with on a project like a music video is a difficult task. So definitely expect to see more videos from us in the future.

Q: Want to maybe give us a hint on what your new album’s name will be?

A: At this stage of the game I think we might as well just be pulling names out of a hat if we were to try and give you one for the sake of it. But we certainly have been throwing ideas back and forth about making it related to the title of the last album and keeping to that sort of theme, life and death etc.

Q: Apart from the upcoming release, what else is on the cards for 2011?

A: We’re definitely going to make 2011 our most active year yet. The end of last year saw us supporting Sonic Syndicate and we’ve just been offered a possible support slot with Ill Nino and Breed 77 with some other great acts on the cards. Personally i think 2010 was a good year but a lot of mistakes were made, not really anyone’s fault, just things every band has to go through to learn the territory better. 2011 is gonna be the year that take everything we’ve learnt and turn it around. No one can tell what the future holds but we’re certainly gonna kick some ass while doing it!
