Interviews — 10 February 2010

Unaware of what lies ahead for Scream, it is obvious that he least  expected what he was up again next. Headbang Today.com crossed  Scream’s path with Fragmented Children all thanks to MotherFUDD, the  South African mother of metal! Fragmented Childen will be screaming pure metal at the MotherFUDD 2010  fest and will show us Capetonians how headbangers from Johannesburg do  it in their own back yard. The question lays bare for an answer. Which  city has the most vicious headbangers, is it Jo’burg or Cape Town? It  doesn’t matter! At the moment Fragmented children are gearing up for  the festival and mutually agreed to spare a few minutes on this quick,  but dangerous interview. Interview By: Scream Fragmented Children are: Adam -rhythm, Matt-bass, Sam -  “spine-tingling” vocals, Wouter-leads and Max ‘cranking out legendary  drum beats’.

HEADBANG TODAY: Hello Fragmented Children… We take it you’ve  gathered your fragments and are ready to answer some questions for us,  no? So you have a godlike list of influences… If each band member  could only give us but one band or artist who are currently  influencing you by fueling your creativity, we would be honoured!

FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Wouter: Carcass Matt: Mudvayne Adam: its a toss up between Killswitch Engage and Arch Enemy Sam: Lamb of God Max: 36 Crazy Fists

HEADBANG TODAY: Yes, you are correct! We ARE going to ask you about  your female vocalist, Sam. Although it’s rare in a predominantly  ‘male’ subculture known as metal, we’ve seen many bands today, such as  Kittie, Guano Apes and Marilyn Manson being front-’woman-ed’ by female  vocalists (Ahem, we’re just joking Manson, you weren’t meant to read  this). We encourage the idea and awesomeness within it. Now for our  question, does Sam out-party you dudes? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: laughs! Wouter: No but she’ll still out party most guys! Matt: Lets just say she gets drawn on a lot when she passes out HEADBANG TODAY: Is Sam able to pull off a death metal, Arch Enemy-like  number for us one day? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Wait for the album! HEADBANG TODAY: So you’re playing shows at MotherFUDD 2010! Have you  headbanged today? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Max: What kinda question is that? Adam: Yup on the way to work and at practice Sam: Well, a little, cause i’m still feeling the effects of my weekend! HEADBANG TODAY: Tell us about the sickest gig or show you’ve had so  far in your careers… FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Most recently, Thornfest the Camp, awesome stage and sound and a kick ass crowd. also or trip down to Durban was pretty awesome, cant wait to see what Cape Town has in store for us! HEADBANG TODAY: Now for ‘that’ tough question… Who do you think are  the better headbangers, Joburgers or Capetonians? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: We’d have to go with JHB coz we haven’t experienced CT yet! Prove us wrong!! HEADBANG TODAY: The answer to the previous question can surely ‘only’  be settled if we have a Pariah Born VS Fragmented Children (Cape  Town/Johannesburg) tour! Would you dig to jam alongside Pariah Born  one day? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Of course, we’ve check out some of their stuff online, would dig to share a stage with them! HEADBANG TODAY: How are Fragmented Children preparing themselves for  MotherFUDD 2010 warm-up wise? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Matt: We drink every day, hahaha Max: Divide by zero Sam: Lots of practice HEADBANG TODAY: NASA has dropped plans to send man to the moon, so now  that Mars is our next destination. Would any of you Sacrifice however  long it takes to be the first metal head on Mars? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: We to busy saving for the album and a trip to CT HEADBANG TODAY: So what’s in the name Fragmented Children? How did it originate and does it have any significant meaning to the band? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Well… a lot of kids are growing up in broken homes and have a lot of things going on in their lives… Nobody is normal, and we’re here to let the youth know that is fine. The Fragmented Children of society HEADBANG TODAY: We’re looking forward to see you on stage at  MotherFUDD 2010! And hopefully we’ll have you down here in Cape Town soon! Any last words before we put this interview to sleep? FRAGMENTED CHILDREN: Wouter: we do take cash offers, hahaha Matt: I hope your ready for whats coming! Sam & Max: Party all the time!! (P.A.T.T)
